Our current discussion about torture has got me thinking even more about the war our country is currently in. Hundreds and thousands of innocent people are dying every day for absolutely no good reason. And this bothers me; I don’t believe it is necessary, I mean how would the people who are killing the innocent feel if someone randomly killed their family.
Something that I think many people forget to think about when discussing war is the physical and emotional/psychological toll it puts on people. Not only does the war have affects on the soldiers fighting in it but it also affects their families and the other innocent people caught in our line of fire. These people constantly have to worry about death and injury, even permanent injury. And this injury doesn’t have to be just physical it can also be psychological. These injuries can include missing a limb or being paralyzed, or something like post traumatic stress disorder. Even the families of the troops are affected. The families go long periods of time without seeing their loved ones. During this time they can experience feelings of loneliness, abandonment, and fear. Families are left to constantly wonder if their loved one will ever come back and if they will come back the way they left them…in one piece.
Question:
Is asking soldiers to go to war a form of torture…for whom??
